Introducing Matilda!

As mentioned on my 'Butterfly' trend post, I discovered a new Brand, Matilda and have fallen utterly in love.

Founded by Jenni Carbins, an Australian living in London since 2005, Matilda aims to have as many products as possible manufactured locally – either in the UK or in Europe – while maintaining the freshness of Australian design. The company launched with a pilot showcase as part of the London Design Festival 2010.

It's cool, fresh and I am pretty much loving their style!

Hot Trend: Butterlies

Everywhere I turn I see butterfly prints on home accessories. It is obviously the hot trend of the season. Whimsical and endearing, it seems it's all about nature and pretty bugs at the moment. Here's a look at some of my favourite designs out there...

Probably one of my favourite designs, this 'Bugs & Butterflies' wallpaper from Ella Doran is exquisite. Now who thought I would be saying that about bugs?!

I came across this Brand Matilda at Home London on the Dezeen stand. I was immediately captivated by the Chrysalis collection which are these decorative wall butterflies made from recycled fine bone china saucers. Delicate and so feminine, a complete winner for me!

Adore these pretty cushions from the 'butterfly collection' from Natural History.

Love this new wrapping paper from Prey, Butterflies on Flowers. The perfect combination it seems.

An all time favourite brand of mine, The New English is also on trend with some butterfly action. Here we have the Lepidoptera Maximus Platter by Maxim.

I have just discovered Helen Morris from the Stencil Library and wow I love her work! Especially this butterfly stencilled project with the Queen's head - fabulous!

Introducing Serpentine By Ligne Roset

I have fallen in love with the the Serpentine chair by Ligne Roset. There were many products that did catch my eye at Maison & Objet this year but for me this has to be one of my utmost favourites. Designed by Eleonore Nalet, a young French designer who is now working as assistant to Inga Sempe'. These outdoor chairs (which look great indoors too) are dressed with long coloured cushions that are entwined through the metal structure of the chair. I love their colour palette, perfect for these Monday blues I am suffering from...

One To Watch: Clare Nicolson

I am obsessed since discovering Clare Nicolson's products. Sweet and colourful her designs are heavily influenced by vintage textiles and beautiful patterned paper. Founded in 2004 Clare Nicolson has been going from strength to strength. I was lucky enough to meet this talented designer last week at the Home London show. What a lovely lady indeed, so friendly and charming just like her pretty patterns.

Here Clare tells us a little bit more about her lovely self.

When did you realise you had a passion for design?
I’ve always been creative since childhood. I was always making something! When I learned to knit and sew as a child I always had several projects on the go (most of them unfinished) making gifts for friends or things for my bedroom.

Where do you inspirations come from?
I’m heavily influenced by vintage textiles and ceramics, particularly from the 60s and 70s. Pattern was just so much more exciting back then. So many beautiful colours and florals! I’m also very much inspired by birds which are featured in most of my designs. I’ve always found them fascinating to watch and to create through textiles. They have such a familiar and friendly shape.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?
I think the highlight is getting recognition for my designs from lots of different magazines and being stocked in shops that I only ever dreamed of selling in when I started.

What do you hope to achieve in 5 years time?
I’d love to develop the range over the next few years to include more than just textiles. I’d love to have my designs on ceramics, and develop a successful homeware brand that will hopefully become a household name.

What famous artists/designers do you admire or inspires you the most?
I’ve always admired the work of collage artist Sara Fanelli. I also love Alexander Girard and illustrator Alain Gree

In five words how would you describe yourself ?
Independent, pattern obsessed, colourful, vintage-inspired, giggly.

What 5 things couldn't you live with out?

Guacamole, my sewing machine, high-waisted jeans, my camera, hot sauce.

Interiors UK Highlights

It's been a hectic weekend for me hence the silence on the blog. Thursday I went to Paris for the weekend where I braved the halls of Maison & Objet. Then on Monday I was off to Birmingham for the Interiors UK show. Here are a few snaps I took on my phone.

Today I am going to share with you more pictures taken from the Heart Home photoshoot we did back in November. The 'Woodland Christmas' feature was very special for me as it was styled by a lovely talented friend of mine, Karl Openshaw.

Even though it was a Christmas feature, this is just perfect to gaze at during any time of the year, especially now as I am having the post Christmas blues... Simply pretty and breathtaking, I am always blown away but this very talented stylist. Aren't they lovely?!

One To Watch: Bianca Lorenne

There are some fabulous designers showcasing at this years interiors Home show. On today's post I want to introduce you to Alison Nottingham, founder of Bianca Lorenne, a lovely New Zealand brand that produces truly exquisite bed linens and home textiles. January 2012 sees the UK launch of this gorgeous brand. I am completely besotted with her gorgeous accessories and cannot wait to meet the lovely Alison in Person.

Here Alison tells us a little bit more about herself and her brand.

When did you realise you had a passion for design?

I have always loved quilting and embroidery and it was a hobby of mine that I did at every spare moment!!! Along with my passion for interiors, it seemed a perfect fit to design a range of quality hand crafted special pieces of bed linen with a difference.

Where do you inspirations come from?

I draw design influences and inspirations from different centuries, cultures, traditions and techniques to provide our unique and exclusive collections. I often follow fashion techniques - dressing your bed instead of yourself. We strive to design timeless classics, with a slight quirky edge for that “wow” look. Sometimes a colour, a texture, a garment or even something simple as an embossed plate can provide inspiration for a new collection.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

My highlight has been starting Bianca Lorenne (named after my daughters Bianca and Lauren) 6 years ago. Building and developing a reputable brand that has grown to being distributed in New Zealand and Australia and now our exciting new launch into the UK . It is a career I absolutely adore!

What do you hope to achieve in 5 years time?

To continue to design inspirational and creative hand crafted bed linen and complementary products. To grow the range and build the Bianca Lorenne brand. I’d also like to distribute the product to other countries.

What famous artists/designers do you admire or inspires you the most?

Sibella Court, Trelise Cooper and Terence Conran.

In five words how would you describe yourself?

Passionate, enthusiastic, motivated, fun loving and caring.

What 5 things couldn't you live with out?

Good coffee, summer camping holidays, nice sheets, shoes (a girl can never have too many), my friends & family.

Introducing Lindsey Lang's New Collection

London based textile designer Lindsey Lang introduces an exciting collection of contemporary printed textile and ceramic designs for the home. Fresh and inventive, Lindsey’s home-ware products are created with a playful use of colour, injecting bright, modern designs to delight and enhance any home.

Bold, colorful, graphic shapes are her signature style in which she creates functional decorative products. The full collection includes: cushions, ceramic trivets, cement tiles for the wall and floor, tea cosies, hot handles, oven mitts and tea towels. what's even more fantastic is that all textiles are hand-sewn and printed in Great Britain.

Her new collection will be shown this weekend at the Home show in London and I cannot wait to take a close up look and hopefully meet the lady in question :)

New Interiors Show - HOME

I am really looking forward to HOME this weekend. It's an exciting new interiors retail trade show opening 15th – 17th January 2012.

HOME is a place where there will be an array of stylish, high quality interior home-wares, from hundreds of the best design companies in the UK and Europe. Visitors can expect to see new work from Mini Moderns, Andrew Tanner Design, Thornback & Peel, Snowdon Flood, Ella Doran, Clare Nicolson just to name a few.

What is even more exciting is that the Heart Home magazine team will also be attending the show where we will also have our own little stand! So do make sure to pop along to stand E1 and say hi to Carole, Daniel and myself. Happy New Year my lovelies....... geez it has been long since I last posted here! I have missed it but I have to admit I have enjoyed my time out! It was great to finally unwind during the holidays. I spent most of my time in Italy with the hubby. For Christmas and new year I was back in London with my famiy

I feel fully recharged and ready to take on 2012. So many exciting projects happening that I cannot wait to share them all with you! Even though I have been resting the team and I haven't actually stopped as it's a real busy time now. Did I tell you that Heart Home magazine has had over 80,000 readers in 4 weeks!!! I am in seventh heaven :) How can I ever thank you guys?! I feel truly blessed to have such support and for doing a job that I absolutely adore! Thank you to every single one of you for making this possible :)

Heart Home Magazine And All Things Digital

I hope you all had a lovely relaxing weekend! I finally did which I have to say was much needed. With the release of the winter issue of Heart Home magazine I coudn't be in a happier place at the moment! The support has been phenemonal. It makes all the hard work worthwhile and clear that digital is really the way forward.

Whether people are a fan of digital or not there is no denying that the future is moving in that direction and it is imporatnat that we embrace it. Don't get me wrong, I am an avid reader of print magazines as well and truly believe there is room for both.

Something I made With Interflora

I was lucky to have been invited to attend the Interflora flower school. Their first class kicked off on Wednesday and it was a truly fun experience. Exactly what Carole and I needed, a well deserved break from our computer screens and getting a bit creative.

I made a lovely themed basket from scratch and was rather pleased with my result. It is now sitting pretty in my living room, so I can officially say I have started with the Christmas decorations ;)

Weekend In Amsterdam With Mariska Meijers

Happy Monday everyone! Busy few weeks over here as the team and I at Heart Home magazine are very busy putting issue 2 together. Only two and a half weeks left before it goes live on December 8th! I cannot wait, it's looking fabulous and I am not being biased, promise ;)

This weekend Carole and I spent it in Amsterdam where we are covering a feature with the talented and amazing artist Mariska Meijers. We had an amazing time with this generous and kind spirited woman. We also got to know the talented Wouter Van Ierssel who was our photographer on location. Also a big thank you to The College Hotel for accommodating us at their beautiful hotel! Thank you all for making this a fun and memorable weekend.

I discovered Rebecca J Coles this year at Origin. A paper artist whose work currently focuses on the reinvention of entomological cataloguing, display and the assemblage of shapes. By de-constructing various paper ephemera, Rebecca creates unique works of art. I found her designs to be totally enchanting and captivating. I literally was completely mesmerised and summered when seeing her work at the exhibition. Astounded by the delicate details, as each piece must take forever to compose. Celebrate Halloween with Disney Villains From Graham & Brown

I do love anything that Graham & Brown does so when I heard about its collaboration with Barbara Hulanicki I was extremely excited. Together they have created a collection of flock wallpapers celebrating the dark side of Disney characters.

Inspired by the Disney classic ‘Sleeping Beauty’ with a touch of Graham & Brown magic, Hulanicki brings to life the magnificent Maleficent and her cunning feathered sidekick, Diablo. This sinister collection is perfect for a Halloween makeover. Incredibly spooky and delightfully wicked ;)

One To Watch: Mini Moderns

I have some lovely chaps over on the blog today, Keith and Mark from one of my favourite brands, Mini Moderns. Fun, eclectic and completely original is best to describe their style. I am a big fan of theirs and am so proud of their success over the years. I adore their quirky designs as they just get better and better. Their wallpapers are always so inspirational with a feeling of nostalgia. Here they spend a little time answering a few questions.

When did you realise you had a passion for design?

When I was very young I was always really good at drawing and would design alternative record covers for my brother's and sister's record collections. I always dreamt of being able to do this as a career. When you are young everything is inspiring so it felt like I was bombarded with creativity from an early age, my sister was also artistic so I think it rubbed off on me too. She would do amazing interior designs in her bedroom from large murals to what we would now call upcycling. Taking junk shop finds and customising things to her taste. I then went through the usual route of foundation course onto a degree in Graphic design but my passion was always textiles and pattern. When I left college I combined my skills and with my interests, working as a graphic and pattern designer in the fashion industry.

Mark's interest in design also started with a love of album cover graphics especially Peter Saville's work for Factory Records. In those days covers were much more tactile than cd covers or downloadable graphics therefore from an early age Mark had an appreciation of print quality and interesting production techniques with paper. When he was a student Mark earned summer money by teaching himself to wallpaper (a skill which was to prove useful to us later) He would also decorate for friends and family, often giving advice on colour schemes and interior design, aided by his vast collection of Habitat catalogues, which are now at Mini Moderns HQ. Ranging from 1971, which is a particular favourite of us both. After graduating Mark was the first of the Mini Moderns team to set up an independent designer-maker business, creating home furnishings which sold in Heal's and Harvey Nichols.

Where do your inspirations come from?

We always say this, but it's true, we take inspiration from everywhere, It can be from TV shows we watched when we were younger, holidays as children, toys, and vintage textile designs. We don't have a decade that we are most interested in - we are very eclectic in the way we work. We may be inspired by something from the 1950's for example but mix it up with something from say the 1970's and colour it up in contemporary colours.

Our work always manages to look familiar but totally new at the same time, I think it is easy to spot a Mini Moderns print design.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

This year has been an incredible year for Mini Moderns, as well as our online shop achieving sales, we could never have imagined 6 years ago when we started, that we are also starting to be recognised as a brand. We have steadily expanded our collections and have had an amazing response. This year we were also nominated for the British Design Awards in the Best British Design Brand category which was an amazing accolade when we saw who we had been shortlisted with.

What do you hope to achieve in 5 years time?

We would hope that Mini Moderns would continue to grow and that we would continue to gain in reputation, both at home and internationally but without losing our personal touch. We would like to be able to fund all the ideas we currently have to expand the brand, which could also mean exciting collaborations like the recent ones with Clothkits, Rob Ryan, Rug Designer, Brume, Magpie, London Transport Museum, Transport for London, Southbank Centre and Courtauld Gallery. Eventually we would like a physical Shop as well as the online version, as we always get a great response to the quality of our products when customers actually see them in the flesh.

What famous artists/designers do you admire or inspires you the most?

In terms of pattern we are inspired by designers from all design periods ranging from Omega workshop/the Bloomsbury set from the turn of the last century, Lucienne Day, David Parsons, Marian Mahler, Alexander Girard, Robert Stewart, the Festival Pattern Group, Celia Birtwell, Ossie Clark, Susan Williams-Ellis, Hilde Smith, Sir Terence Conran to name a few.

In five words how would you describe yourself?

It is really difficult to try and describe Mini Moderns in 5 words, we like to think we are fun, approachable and contemporary - but ultimately the five words that best sum us up are: WE CREATE STUFF WE LIKE and it seems to be working...

What 5 things couldn't you live with out?

1. Our space - over the past few years our home, studio and warehouse has allowed us to grow Mini Moderns within our means and without having to worry about costly storage. It has also been photogenic and has provided us with instant locations for shoots.

However it wasn't only the food that I was impressed with, it was the lovely interiors. With such a relaxed atmosphere it really felt as if I was visiting my friend in the country and just hanging out in her kitchen. With every single detail thought of, it was simply an enjoyable Saturday morning!

Have you been yet? Isn't it just divine!? I finally managed to pop round to Jonathan Adler's first UK store and I just didn't want to leave, I could literally spend hours there. Spanning nearly 3000 sq feet over two floors this showroom is set to be a main attraction in the trendy Brompton District on Sloane Avenue. Bright, bold, fun; basically everything you would expect from Jonathan Adler. Here are some images of his new store, which I am sure you will agree with me that it is definitely a place to visit.

Yesterday was one of those days! Not only was I frantically busy with the usual but I also discovered that my credit card had fallen victim of fraud. What does one do on days like this? Well upon my return home I decided to stop off and buy myself some lovely flowers. Yes it's the ultimate pick me up and already I was feeling better. It really is all about the simple things in life.

One To Watch: Zoe Murphy

I am so excited I finally managed to sit Zoe Murphy down and get her to answer a few questions, not an easy task with this extremely busy lady. I am beyond ecstatic about having her on the blog today as not only am I fan but I got to know Zoe better during our lovely shoot that we did for Heart Home magazine back in May. I like to consider her as a friend and someone who I admire so much. Full of life, charismatic and passionate about her work and Margate, she is one in a million. Here we get to discover the real Zoe and believe me you will fall in love...

When did you realise you had a passion for design?

When I was small I used to make everything I could for my dolls houses out of recycled bits of rubbish. I remember spending HOURS paying close attention to emulating all the little details using matchsticks or paper or bits of rubber and wood. The whole thing was put together using miniature furniture pieces I made - it was brilliant! When I was a child I used to tell everyone I wanted to become an 'Interior designer', it was around the time that 'changing rooms' had first started on the BBC and I loved the theatrics and the staging of all the themes. It was all the stuff of childhood playtime though until I got to further education and university, it was there that I fell in love with textile design - surface pattern & colour and realised I wanted to make design my whole life.

Where do you inspirations come from?

My most obvious inspiration is my home town and the social history it has. I grew up in Margate in the south east, and the place has so much character and colour in its stories and surroundings. I reference it all the time in my furniture pieces, but it is actually more than that for me. It represents a real jovial defiance and determination that I know runs through me as well, which starts becoming part of the things I make too. I affiliate most of it with the post war era of my home town, when holidays were getting back in the swing again, and lots of people visited Margate in the summers. It strikes me as being quite an aspirational time when people were positive about the future and enjoying Britain again. I think in this current decade we want to relate to those optimistic years again, and so I love mostly to look at patterns and design from that age as a foundation for my own work.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Some fantastic things have happened to me in the three short years that I have been set up in business. Being shortlised for the New Designer of the Year award at 'New Designers' was a really proud moment. I've also had opportunities to meet my favourite photographers and artists through what I do which still humbles me immensely in a good way - Tracey Emin stopped into my studio last year on a trip to Margate and I could not have been happier. Having my work stocked by the prestigious Liberty in London has been a constant joy over the last few years and I still consider that to be one of the best things I am involved in. But hands down, as cliche as it might sound, the most important and brightest moments for me are the ones where my local community is rewarded for my work. I've put on workshops for local young people and been involved with town restoration and promotion in lots of ways, and it's those moments/projects where I come home and feel like I'm achieving something really good with what I do.

What do you hope to achieve in 5 years time?

I would love to push the boundaries of my process a lot more. My ethics are very important to me and I feel there is a LOT more to be done in the way of furniture re-use and developing peoples relationships with the things they own. So there will definitely be some changes/progression over the next five years. I hope to be involved in some collaborative projects by then, the best thing about my job is the people. I fully intend on travelling a bit, for work and play.

What famous artists/designers do you admire or inspires you the most?

Martin Parr (photographer), Saul Bass (graphic designer), James Rosenquist (pop artist). All bright and colourful, all slightly humorous, and often with some social commentary in their work.

In five words how would you describe yourself?

Driven, chatty, sincere, awake (always and very), local.

What 5 things couldn't you live with out?

The seaside, bacon, Abi (my assistant), radio 2, coke cola.

Weekend Holiday At 'Agriturismo Le Cascate'

As I head back to London today I can only have wonderful memories of the weekend just passed. We celebrated my sister's wedding up in the mountains of Northern Italy literally in the middle of nowhere. We stayed in this gorgeous rustic B&B 'Agriturismo Le Cascate' in a small village of Calenzano, it was heaven. Our phones weren't working and you know what?! I loved it! Finally two days with no means of communication and it was pure bliss. Long walks, great food and great company is what made this weekend so special. Here are a few snaps of where we stayed.

People who have been following me on my blog know my fascination for illustrations. They excite me especially when they are this good! I absolutely adore these fabulous illustrations from Stina Persson, aren't they fabulous. Full of personality and her use of colour is simply breathtaking.

Stina is based in Stockholm and has worked for some incredible clients worldwide such as DKNY, Elle UK , Harper's Bazaar just to name a few. I love her different use of medium from watercolours to cut papers from acrylics to handwritten, her portfolio is just so inspiring. I am completely smitten with this lady... Are you?

One To Watch: Abigail Edwards

During Tent I finally managed to meet face to face a designer whose work I have always admired, her name is Abigail Edwards. Sweet, composed and very shy she was as adorable as I expected. She definitely has a thing for owls and I simply find her wallpapers so adorable. A girl of many talents as she also styles and draws beautiful illustrations. Here she shares a few things about herself...

When did you realise you had a passion for design?
I have drawn since I was a child and always thought I would be an artist. After studying fine art I got really into interiors and the two sort of blended together so there was never really a specific time. It was just part of life and being an interiors stylist for so many years has no doubt fed that passion.

Where do your inspirations come from?

Inspiration comes from everywhere, ballet, film, music. Growing up in the countryside meant that nature has always been an unconscious inspiration, I especially love gnarly old trees that stand slightly spookily on their own and also fairy tales, which I still read now. I admire the simplicity and clean lines of Scandinavian design but like to merge that with a little bit of Englishness.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

The first time I saw my wallpaper on an actual wall.

What do you hope to achieve in five years time?

I want to design more wallpaper as well as other products, I am working on various ideas at the moment. I still love styling and really enjoy combining the two so hopefully will continue to be able to manage both as well as try out many more things.

What famous artists/designers do you admire or inspires you the most?

I love the work of Piet Hein Eek and also Autoban, Alexander McQueen and Paola Navone amongst many others.

In five words how would you describe yourself?

Shy, driven, creative, sensitive, early bird.

What five things couldn't you live without?

Hot chocolate, phone, sketch book, moisturiser, cafes.

Tent was probably one of my favourite events during London Design Festival, I got to meet up with some of my favourite designers whom I admire their work so much.

I finally had a chance to get to know Esther Patterson, founder of Curiousa & Curiousa. They produce the most exquisite and delicate hand blown glass lightings that you could only imagine. I could literally just stare at them all day, delicate and dreamy with an amazing choice of gorgeous colours. What's also great about this company is that Esther is committed to working with UK based crafts people and suppliers. Yay to good quality UK craftsmanship ;)

Wow!! The past week has been amazing! I cannot describe how much inspiration I have been absorbing and the long days and late nights accumulated together. I am exhausted but buzzing, there seriously has been some amazing shows and have met some inspirational people. First up today are some of my highlights from Origin Craft Fair, I really loved this show, each year the talent just gets better and better. If you do have time then do pop by, ends Wednesday 28th September. I thoroughly recommend it for all those craft lovers out there.

LDF: Lee Broom Introduces Salon Collection

For those of you who have been following my blog, know that I adore anything that Lee Broom designs. Therefore I was really excited to attend his preview party for his new collection, Salon.

Wow is all I can say. This collection consists of six furniture pieces inspired by the curvaceous lines of 1930s upholstery, contrasted with modern stud detailing in either gold or gunmetal. The result? Bold, sexy and so rock 'n' roll, absolutely love it!

Last week I managed to attend a press preview at the V&A and saw all of the lovely installations, ready for the LDF. Here are my Favourites:

'Timber Wave' is a fantastic and interesting installation by Amanda Levete Architects and Arup,This is situated right in front of the V&A's grand entrance. Isn't it beautiful?

One of my definite favourites, 'Textile Field' by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, in collaboration with Kvadrat, (do have a look at the latter as on their website there is a fun animation of this installation). This amazing installation is placed within the Raphael Gallery and is truly impressive, made of coloured textiles and foam. Visitors are invited to lounge on this expansive sensual field within the magnificent environment of the Raphael Court. This was the perfect lie down the day after Heart Home's launch party :)

V&A

'Beyond the Valley' is a fabulously designed and upholstered station within the British Galleries where you can sit back, relax and enjoy a unique interactive experience in such beautiful surroundings. Have fun interacting by using your ipad or iphone and play around with some creations. Cannot wait to go back and have some fun!

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. I have been working very hard with the team at Heart Home Magazine putting all the finishing touches. Can you believe less than 3 days to go now?! It only seems like yesterday when I announced this exciting new venture to all of you. Do make sure to pop over to the Heart Home website on Thursday around 12pm as it will go live then. Anyway back to interiors have you seen the new Christian Lacroix collection for Designers Guild? What do you think? I quite like the fact that Christian Lacroix couture is translated onto luxurious home accessories. Definitely out of my price range but on a whole I think the collection is bold, feminine and indeed sexy.

Hello my lovelies, it has been a long time since I have written on my beloved blog. I am sorry for the absence but with my holidays, weddings, birthday parties to attend and with the launch of our magazine, Heart Home coming up it has been very hectic. It is nice to switch off occasionally but I have missed you all very much. It's not long now until the launch, 15th September so make sure to place it in you diaries :)

I just really wanted to say hi to all of you and I hope you all had a wonderful summer. September is an extremely exciting month with LDF and other incredible events happening. I am so raring to go and hope to see you all around London sometime :)

Tiles For Coasters

I am loving Fired Earth's collection of tiles. Eccentric, fun and all sorts of styles to please. What's funny is that I am wanting to use these tiles as coasters. Yes you heard right, with the beach house project I am thinking of ways to play around with accessories. I think there is nothing so pretty than having these lovely ceramic tiles as coasters on a Mediterranean style set table. Just add some small round felt circles on each corner of the tiles and voila.

Here are 3 collections that I love and each completely different to one another. All gorgeous for different table settings or as decorating pieces. What do you think? It's a fun and simple way of adding something special to your décor.

It's back to work today but after two days like that I am excited at what the week has to offer, bring on the deadlines, meetings on site and catching up on emails.

Project Inspiration: Beach House

I am currently in Italy working on a lovely project. At the moment it's the boring stuff, contractors onsite finishing off the annoying small bits. Anyway, we are nearly there and hopefully after the summer, it's the fun part! Yes, furniture and soft furnishings my favourite and I cannot wait. This space is a fabulous beach house, all white and the living area has carrara marble flooring; divine!

I want to keep this really fresh and light. Obviously I'm steaming ahead and thinking of the colour palette, well simple really, I'm thinking white, greys and blues - for me it's the perfect combo.

For the soft furnishings part, it will be a fairly small budget as the home-owners really go there only on their holidays and they are very chilled. I guess some accessories from Zara Home and H&M Home will do - Right where's the nearest one over here?!

Designer Inspiration: Louise Bradley

I realised the other day that ever since I started blogging I have never mentioned one of my favourite interior designers. I even worked for her, which was a great learning curve. Her name is Louise Bradley, have you heard of her? Louise has got a great eye for balance and detail. Her colour palette is somewhat dreamy and truly exquisite. Being a designer is a talent that just comes naturally to her and it shows.

She is extremely passionate about everything she does which is probably the reason why she is an all time favourite of many. Do have a look at her website to see her portfolio which will blow you away. In London? Make sure to visit her fabulous showrooms.

Ruby Rhino Furniture Collection

Good morning my lovelies, I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. I definitely recharged my batteries but today I am suffering a little from those Monday blues so am finding it difficult to focus. Perhaps a dose of caffeine will do the trick as I haven't had my morning cup of a coffee yet ;)

This weekend has been all talk about the Vintage Festival and I am kicking myself for having missed it. However our friend Kate from A fabric of my Life managed to write up a lovely piece on the event for Heart Home Magazine's blog. Do check it out as it is full of informative details and lovely photos.

I was so happy to hear that Hannah Ricci from Ruby Rhino was displaying her eclectic collection of up-cycled old furniture. I truly love her pieces as they are so unique, beautifully restored and eco friendly. I am all about restoring old pieces at the moment, there is just something about it that gives so much character to certain interiors. Definitely big on trend at the moment and it has my vote. Does it have yours?

On a recent photoshoot for Heart Home Magazine I came across a designer's work which particularly drew my attention. It was the colour combintion of pinks and blues that I found so appealing. I realise I am having a complete colour crush on these two colours, arent they just so delightful?! These pastel tones are just ever so dreamy, wouldnt you agree?

Vintage Editions By Graham & Brown

I am loving the new collection of ‘Vintage Editions’ wallpapers designed by Graham & Brown in collaboration with Wayne Hemmingway. It launches this week as part of the Vintage Festival happening on London’s Southbank. It's a great celebration of the very best in British style from decades gone by. They have come up with four retro style designs that I think are fabulous, what do you think?

This design is called Loopy Lines, love the colour and love the fact they look like flowing books....

Deco Diamond is probably one of my favourites, Inspired by 1930s glamour, this Art-Deco pattern is just gorgeous.

Stretched Diamond is another cool design from the collection. Love the earthy mustard tone colours.

Last in the collection is Grid which combines a 1950s quirky retro print, how fun!

Inspiring: Rue Magazine's July/August Issue

Wow is all I can say to Rue magazine's latest issue. What a gem it truly is. Colourful, vibrant, sassy, I am absolutely loving it. Is it possible that each issue gets better and better?! I absolutely loved Mariska Meijer's feature, and that desert shoot was ever so dreamy. All houses, products featured were just so visually exiting. Rue is truly rocking my world at the moment! Great work girls, truly inspiring indeed!

I really love this time of year when you get to have a sneak peek at the winter collections. OK so it is supposedly summer and trust me I do not want it to end, but new collections just excite me any how.

This morning I headed down to see the Mydeco Boutique winter collection. I have to say I was really impressed by the quality of products. Fun, quirky and colourful seemed to be the theme, also beautifully styled by the the lovely Emily Blunden. Here is a selection of the ones that caught my eye.

Well it's heading up to the weekend again and I cannot believe how fast this week has flown by! Again I am so sorry if I have been absent from the blog but this week has been manic. I was off on Wednesday and Thursday all day on photoshoots for Heart Home Magazine. I have to say I am so excited with the results so far and I cannot wait to share it all with you in September...yay not long to go now!

Henrietta Dubrey Art Exhibition

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. I just got back from Italy mixing work and pleasure. Been working on a project which has been so nice, very slow but really enjoyable. Still have lots of small details to sort out but finally all finishes are sorted. It is looking lovely and I am kicking myself I didn't take any pictures to share with you. I promise once it is all done up I will...

In the mean time back in London I popped down to Skandium to see the art exhibition of Henrietta Dubrey. I love her oil paintings as they are reminiscence of influences from Picasso and Matisse mixed together. I adore her vivacious colours and basically her freedom of movement. Dubrey says 'my work is generally described as abstract, although I would describe my paintings as autobiographical deconstructions and reconstructions of life'. Henrietta now lives and works in West Penwith on the north coast of Cornwall. Her inspirations range from books, magazines, music to family life and holidays. It clearly shows in her work and if her curriculum is anything to go by, it really is rather impressive. Having studied painting in London at the Byam Shaw School of Art, Wimbledon School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools in the late 1980s she really is a raw talent. What do you think? Henrietta Dubrey's Art Exhibition at the Skandium Brompton and Marylebone stores is from 18th-31st July. Definitely worth a visit!

Inspiring Interiors: Maurice Padovani

I just discovered an interior designer whose work really excites me via Desire to Inspire. His name is Maurice Padovani and he has been an interior designer in Marseilles since 1985.

Definitely not one to stay stuck in a rut, Maurice has moved with the times producing fabulous modern, eclectic fresh interiors. I am particularly loving these interiors with it's divine wooden finishes, fabulous light fittings, cool pieces of furniture and those stairs are quite something! Definitely a space I wouldn't have trouble living in ;)

Aren't her pieces so pretty? Jo Heckett creates such gorgeous, colourful porcelain gifts, jewellery and magnets. Whether your looking for bespoke or off the peck pieces she can create anything to your liking. I think they make lovely gifts and I also love the idea of personalised table tiles, so sweet.

Based in her London studio, the Cockpit Arts, Jo loves the simple things in life and I believe it clearly shows through her work, it's about simplicity and also quality.

Inspiring Creative Work Spaces

I have been contemplating doing up my work space for quite some time now. It's one of those things I have been putting off but I have been collecting ideas in the mean time. It's clear to me the kind of style and feel I want for my place just by looking at all of my favourite images. Crispy clean white walls is a must, white desk tick, and lots of wall space to pin my ideas and inspirations.

I absolutely adore the above work space from Nina from Stylizimo. Its black & white palette is gorgeous and for me those crates are divine. What a fantastic idea for storage and it really softens up the palette. Loving the hanging of all of her inspirations, it is just such a pretty work space.

Another space that I love is from Anna Malin via Decor8. As you can see I am drawn to clean white colours and obvioulsy to that desk, as the base is exactly the same to the previous image, I think they are both from ikea.

I also love this 'industrial' feel space from VT Wonen via Bodie & Fou. Loving those shelves and that pendant light...

Also the two images above via Pinterest have a pretty vintagesque feel to them which I find so appealing. I guess white walls and a white desk is definitely something that falls into my style. I hope to find the time and sort out my work space, once I do I promise to share before and after pictures with all of you :)

Friday Inspiration: Noma Restaurant

I have never been to Copenhagen or anywhere in the Scandinavian region but definitely a place I would like to venture to. I am always so intrigued by their design style that they just seem to be a totally stylish bunch. I recently came across images of the Noma Restaurant in Copenhagen and completely fell in love with their interiors. A touch of shabby chic perhaps?! Absolutely adore the rustic wall finishes and those wooden beams are divine.

The magic behind these interiors are from an Interiors and Architecture company called, SPACE based in Copenhagen. They have an extensive portfolio with other stunning interiors to drool over. It's not really surprising this restaurant was voted Best Restaurant in the world, surely it has something to do with their interiors?!

One To Watch: Elli Popp By Katja Behre

I have been a long time fan of these exquisite luxury wall coverings and home accessories from Elli Popp. Therefore I am excited to have today, on the blog the talented designer behind this brand, Katja Behre. Fun, quirky and incredibly romantic these designs are just what dreams are made of... Here Katja shares a little bit more about herself and some insight into her incredible creative world.

When did you realise you had a passion for design?

It sort of happened by accident... First my plan was to study Psychology, then Art Therapy and then it narrowed itself down to either Photography or Colour Design. I got accepted for both courses and as the Colour Design course started half a year earlier, I ended up doing this. So it went from Psychology to Design ;-) Very unexpected, though I always had a lot of fun with Art and Design - I did my A levels in Art and had one of the best marks. So a very 'unplanned' path I ended up walking.

Where do you inspirations come from?

From everywhere you can imagine: Music gigs, streets, gardens, parks, nature, London's nightlife, museums/galleries, dinners/parties with friends, travelling, crazy London fashion, car boot sales, flea markets and vintage sales, cafe's and Restaurants; literally everything ;-)

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

To be where I am with my company - looking back and realising how far I came. Also not knowing what the future will bring.

What do you hope to achieve in 5 years time?

The unexpected, I tempt not to plan too far ahead as it always comes different than you plan, wish and think!

What famous artists/designers do you admire or inspires you the most?

All the dead ones - ghosts and other creatures.... ;-) Erte, Klimt, Renoir, Alexander Mc Queen and Coco Chanel.

What five words best describe you?

Laughing - smiling, very active, a night owl - I hate getting up before 9.30 but don't mind working till 2-3am. Reliable, loyal and a little nuts ;-)

What five things couldn't you live with out?

My music, my favourite decorative pieces/furniture/plants, my favourite cloths, my bike, my friends and my so much loved boyfriend - if humans count for this question ;-)

Today I'm Loving... Michelle Griffiths

I have spotted her work awhile ago during Last year's Origin Craft Fair, (here is an old post showing my highlights from the show). Her unusual textiles did catch my eye and her use of whites and creams, I find very calming. Michelle Griffiths is a professional artist based in South Wales where her work explores the natural rhythm of traditional shibori techniques (Japanese term) where she creates contemporary three dimensional sculptures. Michelle did spend some time in Japan to watch and master this technique and adopted it for her designs with a modern twist. I love her diversity and the way she plays with the textures.

Friday Inspiration: Mowie Kay Magazine

Wow I have died and gone to heaven. Excuse my ignorance but I only recently discovered Mowie kay and his deliciously mouth watering blog, Mowielicious. Wow a food stylist and photographer whose stunning pictures I can literally just stare at all day. Growing up in a family of bakers, his passion for food and photography developed and aren't we so grateful that it did?! What's even more exciting, he has just launched his first online digital magazine, Mowiekay and 'wow' it is fabulous indeed. This is just non stop eye candy at its finest. I couldn't stop oohing and ahing, it is simply divine.

What also surprised me was a styling feature by Holly Becker herself (pg 61-71). She styled, photographed and wrote the article herself and it was definitely a stunning feature. I mean seriously is there any stopping this woman, whatever she touches turns into magic :)

Amsterdam: Van Holland House

We were lucky enough to find a lovely Bed and Breakfast for our weekend in Amsterdam. What's even more funny was that my husband had booked this lovely place not knowing where the Meet The Blogger event was being held. Well it must have been fate because I was literally across the road from it. We stayed in this charming luxury B&B called Van Holland House. It was so pretty, stylishly decorated, clean, great breakfast and the guy who owned it was the sweetest man ever. So here are a few images of where we stayed, we truly had a lovely time in Amsterdam and this was probably one of the reasons as to why. If you ever are looking for a great place to stay at reasonable prices and bang in the centre of the city then definitely take note of this place. I just cant wait to go back...

Fun Times At Meet The Blogger

Yay I'm back after an incredible and fun weekend in Amsterdam! Sorry if I disappeared for a few days but last week I was so busy with Heart Home Magazine and then Friday I flew out to Amsterdam for a nice weekend break. I got up to so many exciting things but obviously one of my main highlights was attending the Meet The Blogger Event on Saturday. Wow is what I can say, I am still buzzing from all the inspiring people I met. It was great to see old and new faces and mingle with people that share the same passion as you do - yes we are all mad bloggers but we love it ;)

I was so happy to see Holly again who gave such a heart felt speech which gave us a lot to smile about. Chatting with Decorate's co-author, Joanna copestick was also a real pleasure. There were many laughs with fellow bloggers and I genuinely had so much fun. I am so excited to have made more online friends, it's what makes blogging all about! I can't wait for the next bloggers meet up, apparently Berlin may be the destination! Now that I cannot wait!

Amsterdam was a pretty inspiring place and I have so many more goodies to share with you the next few days, I just cannot wait!

My New Discovery - Catherine Hammerton

I have come across a new talent which I love, her name is Catherine Hammerton. A London based designer maker, Catherine graduated from the Royal College of Art, London, in 2005 with a Masters Degree in Mixed Media Textile Design. Her work is simply precious with a beautiful handmade aesthetic. Her work varies from using traditional silk screen printing, hand stitching and collaging of fabrics, papers, colours and textures. Her ceramic collection is simply divine.

Based at the central London studio, Cockpit Arts, all of her products are 100% designed and made in the UK which for me is an added bonus! I hope you like her delicately soft enchanted items.

Today I'm Loving... Bungalow Hotel

This contemporary boutique hotel in New Jersey is calling out my name! I can almost taste the holiday vibe through these interiors. I'm loving the colour white throughout with pops of bright accents, from their cool extensive range of eclectic artwork. Lots of textures as well and I do love the use of wood throughout! Yes bang on trendy and uber cool I pretty much like Bungalow Hotel!

Bookshelves Imitations...

I have noticed such a trend with bookshelves in interiors that I am quite liking it. Now I'm not talking about actual books but I am talking about photographs or wallpapers. Now I do prefer the real deal if I have to be honest but sometimes imitations can look great! I came across pictures of this fabulous cool bar, D'espresso in NYC. Designed by the Nemaworkshop it's pretty swanky isn't it!? I honestly thought these were real books, silly me. I love it how the space is achieved with full size photographs of books printed on custom tiles. Doesn't it look like a seen from Inception?!

There are also some cool wallpapers too where you can achieve similar looks...

Last week I went along to the Minotti London showroom event for the launch of their new range. Beautiful showroom, beautiful pieces but as always I found myself drawn to the accessories, in particular these glass vases. I did think they were very familiar and when they told me they were from Anna Torfs, it then hit me how I had come across them awhile back but never blogged about her pieces.

Anna Torfs started her own company in 2002 and makes all of her vases from the Czech Republic. Aren't they so beautiful, elegant and clean?! Have you heard of her? What do you think? I am so drawn to these fabulous pieces...

My time in Marrakesh was purely magical due to the fact that I stayed in the most beautiful and charming place, Peacock Pavilions. I had to share with you some of the images that I took during my holiday. Isn't the place delightful?! Beautifully styled by the incredible Maryam, this place simply took my breath away. Styling comes naturally to Maryam, filling the place up with all her treasurable finds during her travels. I really want to go back there one day with my husband and share this experience with him. It is truly captivating and romantic too...

You probably know by now that I do have a passion for fashion illustrations, there is just something about them that I find so captivating. I love browsing Etsy and finding new artists and when a particular one captures my attention then I just have to blog about them. Today Lola Donoghue is the one that has caught my eye. Living and working in the west coast of Ireland, in Co. Galway, you can clearly see her passion for all things creative. Introducing Clare Cutts

Clare cutts is a new find of mine and I am so excited to share her work with you. I discovered her work yesterday while I was at Pulse. Clare is a printmaker who produces such divine little pieces. I loved her card designs, they are just so feminine and pretty and the actual paper gives that vintage feel. I picked up one of her business cards and they are just so pretty that I am keeping it in my concept box.

I hope you like her designs as much as I did. Trees, birds, flowers perfect for that summer feeling really ;)

Friday Inspiration: Majorelle Gardens

Today's Friday inspiration comes from the lovely Majorelle gardens that I visited during my stay in Marakech. This beautiful botanical garden designed by French artist Jacques Majorelle sure is a vibrant experience. Even though it was a rainy day it really didn't dampen our spirits as it truly is a mesmerising place. Filled with pops of blues and yellows you can see that these are such magical colours. Day Trip To Essaouira

As promised, here are a few snaps from my day trip to Essaouira. Such a pretty quaint little city by the coast, a few hours away from Marrakesh. We had a lovely time here, from camel riding, eating fresh seafood and wondering around the Medina of Essaouira. Definitely less bustling than Marrakesh but still a place with lots of personality with an artsy atmosphere. It was also fun to see many surfers aswell. All in all it was a pleasant day out.

Magical Marrakech

What is it about Marrakech that makes it so magical?! Is it the upbeat vibe of the people, the colours, the architecture, the food? Perhaps so but for me it's the details that are involved in each piece. Their use of bright vivid colours all have a deep meaning and their love for infinity patterns which are all imperfect is what fascinates me. Roaming around the streets of Marrakech I found myself immersed in its beauty. Here are a few snaps that I wanted to share with you, I hope you get a feel of what a truly magical place this really is.

Back From Marrakech!

I'm back after an incredible time in Marrakech! What can I say except I had the most inspiring time surrounded by inspiring people. Arriving and staying at Peacock Pavilions was purely magical and meeting Maryam was extremely fascinating, an exceptionally kind & strong woman whom I can listen to her inspiring stories all day long.

Each and everyone of the girls I met on the retreat: Natalie, Fanny, Leni, Erika, Tawney and Bonnie will have a special place in my heart and I hope that our paths will cross again one day, as I am sure they will. It was great being surrounded by people that are so passionate and creative about life. I am also so happy that I shared this experience with my good friend Carole!

This whole week my blog will be dedicated to my trip to Morocco as I want to share with you every single snippet of my experience. An inspiring journey it truly was, so as soon as I sort out all of my lovely photos you will be able to experience it with me ;) From the food, the colours, the architecture, the shopping, the atmosphere, the people; Marrakech is definitely a place I will treasure...

Have a fabulous weekend friends, Arianna Interiors will be taking a break for a whole week as I'm off to Marrakesh tomorrow with the lovely Carole from Dear Designer's blog. I cannot wait to share with all of you my photos and travel experience. Really looking forward to this break as I have been swamped with work and it is perfect to have this just before things become really manic.
